DUBAI IS ON THE MOVE – literally. In 2025, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching one of its biggest infrastructure upgrades ever. Roads, bridges, metro lines, bike tracks and even flying taxis – are all part of the plan.
A major part of this transformation is the new Dubai Metro Blue Line.
If you live in areas like Silicon Oasis, International City or Ras Al khor you will soon have access to a new metro line. The Blue line is 30 km long with 14 new stations connecting key neighborhoods all the way to Dubai Creek Harbour.
It’s expected to carry over 320,000 passengers per day, so this line is expected to reduce pressure on the red and green lines. More importantly, it’s going to open up a whole new side of the city for residents, workers and investors.
OLD DUBAI IS GETTING A BIG UPGRADE TOO
The Al Shindagha Corridor project is linking Deira to Bur Dubai in a way that’s never been done before. Travel time will drop from 104 minutes to just 16. This will benefit over a million people but also support future hotspots like Deira waterfront and Dubai Islands.
ROAD ACROSS THE CITY ARE GETTING SMARTER
In the other parts of the city, roads are being expanded and redesigned. Hessa street is doubling its capacity adding shaded bike and scooter lanes and improving key junctions. Umm Suqeim Street is already 70% complete and being widened to ease traffic for communities like Al Barsha.
The trade center Roundabout, one of Dubai’s busiest interchanges, is also being transformed with flyovers and smart traffic systems. This will improve flow near DIFC and the World Trade Centre, two of the most high-traffic zones in the city.
Several bridges are being built to connect Dubai Islands to the mainland making it easier to access the new waterfront communities coming up. Meanwhile areas like Nad Al Sheba, Al Awir are getting new roads, flyovers and better access to highways bringing local and outer communities into the spotlight.
Mobility is going green and smart.
A 13.5 km mobility track is being built along Hessa Street for bikes, scooters, and pedestrians. Dubai is also installing over 760 smart bus shelters across the city solar-powered and climate-controlled.
And yes, aerial taxis are officially in the works. Dedicated skyports are being planned for launch by 2026.
